The short-day requirement of winter rape depended on cultivar; Lembkes Malchower and Lusewitzer Spatsaatvertraglicher had muda, more stringent requirements than Olquell. The 2 first-named responded little to seed vernalization in long days, the growing point developing as far as the prefloral phase, as in unvernalized plants.
