Results are given of surveys carried out on 73 farms with bucket-plants using various methods of sterilization and 20 farms with pipeline milking installations cleaned in-place by steam or circulation of detergent-hypochlorite. A high proportion of the colony counts of milking and cooling equipment was <10, 000/sq. ft. and the incidence of coli-aerogenes and other types of milk-souring organisms was also low, when cleaning was carried out by approved methods.
