Iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 levels in normal pregnancy, and their influence on birth-weight and the duration of pregnancy

Iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 levels in normal pregnancy, and their influence on birth-weight and the duration of pregnancy

Medical Journal of Australia 1(9): 338-342

The relations of serum Fe, folate and vitamin B12 and their influence on birthweight and duration of pregnancy were studied in 60 initially haematologically normal pregnant women all of whom were given Fe by mouth during the study. Hb and serum folate values fell at 26 weeks but rose again by 38 weeks. Serum Fe at 26 weeks was lower than the initial value or the value at 38 weeks. Serum vitamin B12 fell steadily until 38 weeks.
