Leaf mineral content and the growth of apple trees

Leaf samples from 148 13-year-old apple trees of the variety Yellow Transparent grown in Central Poland were analysed for 12 elements. The results were compared with the standard values of Kenworthy and those obtained by Fiedler and Gruppe. Slight latent deficiencies of N and Mg were found, and possibly also of Fe and Mn. The growth index of the trees increased with an increase of N or Mg content in the leaves.
