The question of food supply and remuneration is first considered. China still works on the system of labour points. The amount distributed to each is calculated according to the number of working points (kung fen) earned. This system varies regionally. In recent years much effort has gone into the introduction of the Tachai system. Since no limit is set on the amount of grain the state may take away, greater production does not necessarily mean more grain for local consumption.
