Maize grain: storage, drying and quality. 8. Feeding value and digestibility of maize grain for young pigs and for rats

Maize grain: storage, drying and quality. 8. Feeding value and digestibility of maize grain for young pigs and for rats

Annales de Zootechnie. 20: 663-672

Maize grain was kept in bins for less than 30 h (R), for 6 days during which there was spontaneous heating (E) or for 45 days ventilated with cold air (F). Of each lot some was then dried at 80 degrees and some at 140 degrees C. Each type was given as 65.5% in a diet with soya bean meal, fish meal and dried skimmed milk to pigs weaned at 5 weeks. Gain was less with E maize dried at either temperature than with R or F maize; drying temperature had little effect.
