Hereford, Hereford x Friesian and Friesian steers born in 1961 and 1962 were reared under the same conditions from birth to 2 yrs. of age, 2 animals of each type in each year being slaughtered at birth and approx. every 6 mths. thereafter. On arrival at the agricultural station, the 3 types averaged 96, 113 and 103 1b. resp.; those surviving to 24 mths. averaged 1102, 1202 and 1282 1b. resp.
