Data are presented on the labour requirements and results of hand thinning the apple varieties Abbondanza and Delicious, the pear variety Kontoula and the peach varieties Elberta and Morettini I. For the apple varieties alternative methods involved the use of straight-bladed secateurs (as used for grape thinning) and of wooden rods 1-4 m. long with a rubber loop fixed to one end.
