Mechanism of chemotherapeutic activity and side effects of benzimidazole derivatives in trichinelliasis

Mechanism of chemotherapeutic activity and side effects of benzimidazole derivatives in trichinelliasis

Wiad. parazyt 15(5/6): 682-684

The effect of hydrocortisone on thiabendazole treatment of Trichinella infections in white mice was checked at intervals over a period of 7 to 90 days after infection. Hydrocortisone did not affect, or slightly enhance, the efficacy of treatment against the intestinal and migrating stages. In the case of encysted larvae, hydrocortisone, by suppressing the tissue reaction initiated by thiabendazole around the capsule, inhibited the anthelmintic activity of thiabendazole.
