Mineral fertilizers and yield of spring wheat on dark-chestnut soils of trans-Volga

In trials in 1966-8 with spring wheat on dark-chestnut soil, 40-60 kg P2O5/ha applied before autumn ploughing + 20 kg P2O5/ha at sowing or 30 kg N + 30 kg P2O5/ha applied in autumn + 10 kg P2Os/ha at sowing markedly increased plant resistance to drought, decreased the water consumption for producing 1 grain unit, and increased grain yields and improved grain quality.
