Neurosecretion-like material in the hindbrain of ageing sheep and sheep affected with natural scrapie

Neurosecretion-like material in the hindbrain of ageing sheep and sheep affected with natural scrapie

Nature. Lond, 225:

Electron microscopy of the cerebellar granule layer and the supraoptic nucleus of 2 1/2 to 4-year-old ewes affected with natural scrapie revealed accumulations of dense bodies, in various shapes and sizes, and dense-core vesicles, 40-100 mm in diam., within fine unmyelinated nerve processes. Similar accumulations were seen within degenerated cerebellar boutons terminaux and in hindbrain nuclei with cerebellar connexions, but these disappeared in advanced scrapie.
