In glasshouse experiments rice IR8 and Peta were grown in the dark (no algal growth) or in light (good algal growth), with or without NPK. Indigenous algal growth in Light conditions did not affect plant height or the yields of grain and straw, but slightly increased the number of panicles and tillers/plant in Peta not treated with NPK. Total uptake of N did not differ between light and dark pre-treatments.
