Nitrogen studies

Nitrogen studies

Rev. ecuator. Banano, 2: 5/6, 19-21

The top-soil of 2 adjoining 4-year-old banana fields (one of which received annual applications of N) on river alluvium and that of a plot of virgin forest on volcanic ash soil, all situated in Ecuador, was periodically sampled for 15 months for the determination of the N content. This showed seasonal fluctuations related to the rainfall, with a maximum in the dry season; fertilizer application in the wet season caused a large but transient increase.
