Nutritional aspects of amino acid metabolism. 2. The effects of starvation on hepatic portal-venous differences in plasma amino acid concentration and on liver amino acid concentrations in the rat

Nutritional aspects of amino acid metabolism. 2. The effects of starvation on hepatic portal-venous differences in plasma amino acid concentration and on liver amino acid concentrations in the rat

British Journal of Nutrition 27(2): 233-247

For part 1 see Abst. 6283, Vol. 42. 2. Male Wistar rats weighing 250 to 290 g were fed on a diet of wheat 50%, barley 25, white-fish meal 7, meat meal 6, unextracted dried yeast 5, grass meal 5, salt 1 and molasses 5. Blood was taken from the portal and hepatic vein from fed rats or rats starved for 1 day (18 to 22 h) or 3 days (66 to 70 h). Free amino acids in plasma, liver and in a perfusate of liver were estimated by automatic analysis.
