Of a population of 321 in a rural area of Puerto Rico, 306 persons were examined clinically and 296 biochemically. In a dietary survey of families representing 27% of the population intakes of total energy and fat were low and the diet was deficient in Ca and vitamin A. Intakes of protein, Fe, ascorbic acid and thiamine were adequate and those of nicotinic acid and riboflavine were borderline.
