Observations on the infection of bulinid snails with Schistosoma mattheei. I. The susceptibility of Bulinus africanus and Bulinus truncatus

Using the shedding of cercariae as the criterion, it was found that, whereas a South African strain of Bulinus (Physopsis) africanus was highly susceptible (about 68 to 92%) to infection with a South African strain of Schistosoma mattheei, an Iranian strain of B. (Bulinus} truncatus was totally refractory to this schistosome. An East African strain of B. (P.) africanus gave infection rates between the two extremes. These relative susceptibilities remained stable over 12 months.
