Occurrence of Orobanche cernua on Pluchea lanceolata, an obnoxious weed in Rajasthan, India

Occurrence of Orobanche cernua on Pluchea lanceolata, an obnoxious weed in Rajasthan, India

PL Dis. Reptr 53(1): 43-4

Pluchea lanceolatais an obnoxious perennial weed of some parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab, and is commonly found in fields of wheat, barley, gram, linseed and mustard. It perennales in the soil through a very deep and extensive root system; the tap root may penetrate down to 25 ft and the shallow horizontal roots give rise to new shoots. The weed has made large areas of agricultural land unproductive. O. cernua was found parasitizing the weed in the Tonk District in 1967-68.
