At Univ. Bot. Lab., Madras, the endogenous respiration of S. rolfsii was lower in NaNO3 than in (NH4)2SO4 medium and was not appreciably altered by the addition of the basal medium. The rates of O2 uptake and CO2 output of S. oryzae ) in NaNO3 were accelerated with addition of the nitrate medium.
