In sand and solution cultures containing N and at substrate pH 6.5, varying the Ca content from 5 to 100 ppm. had little effect on yields of T. africanum and T. burchellianum, whereas those of T. repens, T. pratense and T. incarnatum increased with increasing Ca level. Yields of all species investigated increased with increasing pH value from 4.0 to 6.5, but the African species were less adversely affected by low pH than the European species.
