Physiological, biochemical and polaro-graphic characteristics of variety-line hybrids and single crosses of maize and their parental components

Physiological, biochemical and polaro-graphic characteristics of variety-line hybrids and single crosses of maize and their parental components

Vestn. sel'skohoz. Nauk. (Rec. agric. Sci), 7, 69-72

In photosynthetic activity, all the hybrids examined exceeded the inbreds from which they were derived, the varieties being intermediate; it was higher in hybrids showing marked heterosis than in related hybrids with less pronounced heterosis. Respiration rate was higher in the inbreds than in their hybrids, varieties being again intermediate. Water content was higher in hybrids than in inbreds or varieties.
