Planting density-early effects on growth pattern of Hevea brasiliensis

Stands of 80, 100, 120 and 140 trees/acre planted in equilateral triangles as established buddings of clone PB 5/51 grew in 4 discernible phases prior to tapping Phase 1 lasted 2 years during which tree growth was not affected by density. Phase 2 lasted between 6 months and one year when inter-tree competition was slight, but more rapid canopy closure at the higher densities depressed leguminous ground covers earlier.
