Poplar groundwood pulp for making newsprint and medium-fine papers

Poplar groundwood pulp for making newsprint and medium-fine papers

Holz-zucht, Reinbek. 18: 1/2, 8-10

Discusses grinding processes (including pressure wetting), paper properties etc. One Austrian mill adds 14% Poplar wood (Black Poplar, hybrid Black Poplar or Aspen, but not White Poplar or Willow) to Spruce for newsprint and up to 50% for medium-fine papers. Poplar wood stores better than Spruce except for surface moulds, and yields ca. 266 kg. groundwood/stacked cu. m. vs. 295 kg. for Spruce.
