Abstract
A tropical livestock unit is proposed, analogous to the livestock unit used in temperate countries. It is a reference animal of 250 kg bodyweight with a daily intake of 2.5 kg dry matter per 100 kg bodyweight. Tables give the composition of Sudan savannah plants of about 30 species in different soils and seasons, including the "equivalent ration" as feed units and digestible crude protein per kg dry matter.
