Prednisolone as inhibitor of the biosynthesis of calcium-binding protein induced by vitamin D in small intestine mucosa of chickens

Regulyatory rosta i metabolizma zhivotnykh. Akademiya Nauk Latviiskoi SSR, Institut Biologii, Riga, 209-215
Prednisolone as inhibitor of the biosynthesis of calcium-binding protein induced by vitamin D in small intestine mucosa of chickens
For the first 20 days after hatching 80 Leghorn chicks were deprived of vitamin D on a cereal-based diet; at 3 weeks, when they had clinical rickets, they were divided into 5 groups. One group had a single dose of cholecalciferol 500 IU by mouth, another group a supplement of 5 mg prednisolone/100 g feed and 2 groups had the dose of cholecalciferol 6 h before or 10 h after the feed with prednisolone. Birds were killed 18 to 20 h after the prednisolone or 21 to 24 h after the vitamin.
