Preliminary study of the phenomena of transpiration in the banana. Application to the determination of the irrigation requirements of banana plantations in Ecuador. Parts 1 and 2

Preliminary study of the phenomena of transpiration in the banana. Application to the determination of the irrigation requirements of banana plantations in Ecuador. Parts 1 and 2

Fruits d'Outre Mer 23: 357-81; 483-94. bibl. 37

Studies on transpiration and stomatal opening in irrigated and non-irrigated Cavendish bananas are described, and the results are correlated with data on light intensity and soil and atmospheric water potentials. Root profiles of banana plants in the different soil types of Ecuador are presented in diagrammatic form. On the basis of this information determinations have been made of the volume and frequency of irrigation desirable for the areas studied.
