The tests showed that chip outflow was most favourable with a rounded profile in the chip space, the front of which should be inclined at ca. 45 degrees to the cutting direction. The shape of the chip space had no significant effect on the coefficients of variation of chip thickness, chip roughness, chip curvature, feed force, and the distance between the cracks occurring during chipping.
