Albino rats of initial weight 80 to 100 g were used to evaluate barleys and soya beans on the basis of N balance, biological value with whole egg powder as 100, and blood urea values. Biological value agreed well with reciprocal urea value. High-protein barley varieties, with from 13.0 to 15.1% crude protein in dry matter, had somewhat lower biological values than the parent strains Saale and Frigga; the biological value of Saale was 96.4.
