Flower buds of plants having 24 pairs of N. tabacum chromosomes and one N. plumbaginifolia chromosome were treated with y rays from a 60Co source. Reciprocal crosses were made between irradiated and nonirradiated material. The interspecific translocation of the Ws (pbg) gene. which is dominant to an albino gene in the N. tabacum complement and located on the additional N. plumbaginifolia chromosome. was identified by the degree of mottling and by the meiotic configuration of the PMCs.
