Reaction of different inbred lines to the cytoplasmic male sterile character and the inheritance of fertility restoration in corn

A search was made among 17 local inbred lines of maize for sources of fertility-restoring and sterility-maintaining germ plasm for Texas-type male sterility, supplied by the line B7Ms. Three fertility-restoring lines from Kansas were also used. Four local inbreds were capable of restoring fertility, being apparently homozygous for chromo-genes antagonistic to the cytoplasmic male sterility.
