Rearing calves on milk substitutes and special concentrate feeds

A control group of calves was given, up to 180 days of age, 300 kg whole milk and 2 similar groups got 75 kg. The controls got 147 kg of a concentrate designed for growing cattle, with 19% protein, and 385 kg lucerne hay. The other groups got 104 kg milk substitute and 77 kg of a concentrate with 20% protein or 66 kg of one with 24%. From 90 to 180 days these groups got 106 kg grower's feed; intakes of hay were 396 and 393 kg.
