Red and beige soils. A study of a soil sequence over quartzite in the forest ferrallitic zone of the Central African Republic

Red and beige soils. A study of a soil sequence over quartzite in the forest ferrallitic zone of the Central African Republic

Cahiers ORSTOM Serie Pedologie 9(2): 147-187

The soils studied are situated in the Bangui region with an annual rainfall of 1600 mm. Red soils have developed on convex slopes on the watersheds at altitudes of approx. 400 m, and beige soils in flat valleys at approx. 360 m. Fe accumulates in indurated horizons in the red soils, but both Fe and bases are leached out of the deep, waterlogged horizons in the beige soils.
