Regulation of inflorescence growth in cuttings of the grape vine (Vitis vinifera L.)

Regulation of inflorescence growth in cuttings of the grape vine (Vitis vinifera L.)

J. exp. Bot, 19: 532-43. bibl. 18

In woody cuttings inflorescences of fertile buds usually atrophy soon after bud burst, but are retained if leaves are removed from the elongating shoot. Removal of apices and roots does not affect inflorescence growth if leaves are present; with defoliated cuttings inflorescence growth is stimulated by removal of apices but depressed by removal of roots. Applying IAA to the petiole stumps of defoliated cuttings did not replace the effect of leaves and induce atrophy of inflorescences.
