Rate of milk flow, quarter distribution and strip-pings, were taken as characterising ease of milking. A comparison was made between 429 hand-milked cows and 293 machine-milked, hand-stripped cows. By hand, total milking time was 6.75 mins., yield 8.47 kg. and percentage of milk in the fore-quarters 42.8 v. 6.34 mins., 8.32 kg. and 41.1% by machine.
