Response of corn (Zea mays L.) to population, bed height, and genotype on poorly drained sandy soil. 1. Root development

Response of corn (Zea mays L.) to population, bed height, and genotype on poorly drained sandy soil. 1. Root development

Agron. J 56(3): 269-73. bibl. 12

The root response of hybrid-maize varieties Coker 811 and Florida 200, to plant populations (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 thousand plants/ac) and bed heights, was studied in 1960 and '61. Dry weight of roots per plant was decreased 72% by increasing the plant population from 5 to 25 thousand plants/ac, while width and depth of root clump were decreased, respectively, by 14 and 33%.
