Of more than 30 foreign varieties, Nadwislanski (Poland), Pawazsky (Czechoslovakia), Ascott (France) and Niki (Netherlands) appeared to be of the most likely interest, and these were evaluated with local populations from Cluj and Secuieni. Under the more favourable conditions of Brasov experimental station there was no significant difference between the varieties in respect of green matter production, but Nadwislanski was clearly superior in seed yield.
