Role of vitamin D in calcium absorption in the small intestine of chickens

Regulyatory rosta i metabolizma zhivotnykh. Akademiya Nauk Latviiskoi SSR, Institut Biologii, Riga, 85-96
Role of vitamin D in calcium absorption in the small intestine of chickens
Leghorn chicks from hatching were reared on a basal diet based on maize, barley and soya meals with ample Ca and P but no vitamin D; after 3 weeks they had rickets and then doses of cholecalciferol from 20 to 1000 IU were given by mouth for study of their effects on Ca absorption and the binding capacity of duodenal mucosa during the period between 2 and 48 h afterwards.
