Observations were made in 2 successive grazing seasons in Oregon on pastures of Festuca arundinacea or Lolium perenne each with Trifolium subterraneum. In the first year weather conditions favoured clover production but in the second they did not. Each pasture was grazed separately by sheep or cattle. All had oesophageal cannulae. On both pastures and under light grazing conditions sheep selected more clover than grass during spring and early summer.
