Serological studies on the artificial insemination of domestic fowl. II. Effect of sperm agglutinating antibodies on the fertility of hens

Sperm-agglutinating antibodies were produced in blood serum by the intravenous injection of hens with spermatozoa, but not by intra-uterine insemination twice weekly for 7 wks. The treatment of spermatozoa with iso-immune and hetero-immune sera containing sperm-agglutinating antibodies lowered fertility for antibody titres > 1: 8; with antibody titres > 1: 128, fertility was zero. In hens repeatedly immunized with spermatozoa, fertility duration was reduced compared with untreated controls.
