Soil conservation in Africa and Madagascar. Part I - Factors of erosion and Wischmeier's equation. Part II - The influence of vegetation on run-off and soil losses

Soil conservation in Africa and Madagascar. Part I - Factors of erosion and Wischmeier's equation. Part II - The influence of vegetation on run-off and soil losses

Bois For. Trop, 118; 119, 3-17; 3-12

Part I consists of a discussion of the influence of climate, soil, vegetation and method of cultivation on erosion in a tropical context, with a description of an American method of measuring erosion by means of Wischmeier's universal erosion equation. Part II contains a description of the use of American experimental apparatus in Madagascar to measure run-off and compare the anti-erosive effects of various conservation measures, including afforestation (with Eucalyptus spp.).
