The grass, grown on a well-drained brunizem of loessial origin, was fertilized with NH4NO3 at 20-200 lb/acre N and/or super at 35 lb P or was untreated. High rates of N decreased pH from 5.9 to 4.7 in the 0-16 inch layer, whereas pH in the 6-12 inch layer was only decreased by the highest N rate; high rates of N increased lime requirement above the calculated value.
