The objectives were to: (1) examine and describe the structural changes that have been and are occurring in British food retailing since the end of food rationing in 1954; (2) identify and evaluate those forces (economic, social, and political) which affect the industry; (3) project the more significant structural trends, and (4) determine how, and to what extent, these structural changes affect other sectors of the food distribution system.
