Studies on Para grass (Panicum barbinode or Brachiaria mutica Stapf). 2. Effect of hoeing, organic and inorganic nitrogen on the chemical composition and yield of Para grass

In trials during 2 years, Para grass given no N gave average yields of 35.2 hkg DM, 91.3 kg DCP, 1595.4 kg TDN, 15.5 kg Ca and 9.8 kg P/ac. Application of 60 and 90 lb N/ac in 2 forms, in addition to hoeing, increased the respective yields by 29.5-49.2%, 109.7-233%, 37.5-79.2%, 50.6-73% and 45.4-62.6%; higher yield increases were given by 90 lb than by 60 lb N/ac; N as ammonium sulfate was more effective than as f.y.m., except for P yields which were higher with f.y.m.
