N fertilizers were applied to ryegrass at 18 kg/ 10 are at sowing and 6 kg/10 are after the 1st cut (high rate) and at 6 kg and 2 kg/10 are (low rate). The 1st cut was taken at the vegetative, boot, head and milk stages of growth. The high-N rate increased the protein content of the forage in the 1st cut and aftermath at all stages of growth, and increased DM digestibility at the vegetative and milk stages.
