Studies on iron metabolism, the production and loss of red blood cells with reference to iron reserves in experimental hookworm infection

Studies on iron metabolism, the production and loss of red blood cells with reference to iron reserves in experimental hookworm infection

Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health 2(2): 201-209

The development of anaemia in dogs experimentally infected with Ancylostoma ceylanicum and A. caninum was influenced by their iron reserve as well as dietary iron. Red cell production in dogs with a deficient iron reserve or iron-deficient diet was below normal. The plasma iron turnover rate was found to be inversely related to the haemoglobin concentration.
