In trials during 1962-5 with a number of lucerne varieties, Williamsburg gave the highest yields and showed least reduction in summer growth either with or without irrigation. The yields of irrigated lucerne were higher than those of lucerne not irrigated, mainly because of increased plant height, rather than increased tillering.
