Studies on seed production with fodder kale. 1. The effect of cultivation method, sowing time, variety and nitrogen fertilization on the seed yield in case of field hibernation of the stand

Albrecht-Thaer-Arch 13(4): 425-37

Highest seed yields, 11 hkg/ha, were obtained by sowing without a companion crop between mid-June and end-July. Optimum plant height at the start of winter was about 20 to 40 cm. Late sowing gave plants which were too small to be vernalized. Cultivar Korso could be vernalized at shorter stem lengths than the taller Gulzower Gruner. N at 70 kg/ha in the year of sowing gave a slight decrease in winter survival.
