Contents of DM, fibre and lignin in first-cut lucerne progressively increased from the pre-bud to the early flowering stage, whereas those of P, Ca and Mg gradually decreased. Content and digestibility of CP increased considerably at the bud stage and then declined rapidly. DM digestibility and TDN content increased at the pre-bud stage and then declined. Digestible CP yield was highest at the bud stage, that of TDN at early flowering.
