In trials during 3 yr, all plots were cut 5 times/yr and 10 treatments were tested. In one treatment all crops were cut to 1 in. from ground level and in another all were cut to 2.5 in. 4 of the other treatments consisted of cutting the first crop or crops to 1 in. and then changing to 2.5 in. at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th crop. In the remaining 4 treatments the reverse procedure was followed (starting with a 2.5 in. cutting height and changing to 1 in. at later cuts).
