Studies on the effects of water-temperature on the growth and yield in rice plants

The response of the growth, yield and yield-components of rice plants to constant water temperatures between 15 degrees and 40 degrees C throughout the whole growth period, was studied. Growth was accelerated at temperatures of 30 degrees and over, and delayed at temperatures of 25 degrees and below. No panicle initiation occurred at 15 degrees or 40 degrees. At 25 degrees and 30 degrees the plant developed into a " heavy-ear type " while at 20 degrees a " heavy-tillering type " developed.
