The following are based largely on the author's abstracts of these accounts of studies carried out m India on the nutritional requirements of the larvae of Dacus cucurbitae Coq. Studies on the growth and development of the larvae on various foodstuffs (including vegetables, fruits, rice paste, groundnut paste, pulses, bulbs, tubers, hens' eggs, milk and yeast) indicated that the fly is a potential pest of many vegetables and fruits that are not at present attacked m the field.
